Problem is, the first Pillars of Eternity clung a little too closely to that formula.

Pillars of Eternity was a little too glum for its own good, but Deadfire wisely remembers to sprinkle in some wisecracks among the wizardry.
In the most common mode, creatures come out at night and attack you for a bit of extra excitement, but you can do away with that and simply focus on the building you wish.

We've collected the 140 best Mac games for your delectation, dividing them for the sake of convenience into 10 categories.
Select your favourite genre from the list above and jump in.
Here, then, are the greatest Mac games out there, together with, where available, links to in-depth Macworld reviews and entries on the Mac App Store or Steam, so you can buy them right away.
And if you want some help finding good apps on the Mac App Store, there's an easy way.
Adventure games A Story About My Uncle Developer: Buy now: £9.
Admittedly, Gone North Games isn't the most well-known developer, consisting of a group of former students in Sweden, whose biggest hit seems to have been 2014's Goat Simulator.
A Story About My Uncle was also released on PC in 2014, although the Mac version took a few years to arrive, and is now available on Steam.
The story follows a young boy who goes in search of his Uncle Fred, an intrepid explorer who on this occasion seems to have gotten a bit carried away, and has gone missing in one of those Best mac adventure games Strange-esque inter-dimensional landscapes populated by floating islands and strange alien creatures.
The game starts off like an adventure, asking you to find clues about your missing uncle, but rather than sticking with 2D graphics and dull swathes of text, the game suddenly goes rocketing across the dimensions, turning into a kind of 3D platform game as you use Uncle Fred's 'adventure suit' to run and jump around the alien landscape and track him down.
The suit starts off with a single power-boost that learn more here you to jump around the various floating islands and platforms, and then you get a grappling hook as well, which gives you more freedom to explore the world around you.
There are alien encounters as well, but this is a strictly non-violent game, so rather than killing everything in sight, you can interact with the beings you meet, learn about their own stories, and maybe pick up a few clues about your uncle as well.
My jumping skills are clearly a bit rusty, and I died quite a few times even in the game's early tutorial section, but once you get the hang of it, A Story About My Uncle, is a fresh take on the traditional adventure game - and, with its focus on peaceful solutions to problems, is a good introduction to gaming for younger players too.
The Banner Saga Company: Where to buy: £18.
Who needs fancy 3D graphic engines when you have this kind of gorgeous hand-drawn artwork?
Team Stoic has proved you don't need a monster-computer to have your breath taken away by graphics.
Visual treats aside, the core gameplay is very fun.
Taking clear inspiration from the Oregon Trail but with Vikings and monsters you lead a caravan across a dying world in search of safety and supplies.
Gameplay takes place across different sections of travel, decision-making and combat, which all blend smoothly together.
Combat is turn-based and deceptively challenging.
You are free to manage your war party and different characters and classes have varying stats and special abilities.
Just consider your options carefully, since a wrong choice in a decision-making phase can rob you of a major character or valuable warrior.
Special mention must also be made of the music, which is haunting and epic by turns, as required.
The story is quite intriguing and the many characters are well developed.
We best mac adventure games found the dialogue to be witty and humorous, here some levity to the grim surroundings.
The final battle and events set the stage for even more to come in chapter 2.
If the 8-10 hour journey doesn't satisfy you the first time around, you can play again and make different choices, ending up with significantly different outcomes and endings.
Jon Carr Read our full J.
Among The Stars Company: Where to buy: £14.
Among The Stars first time around, when it was originally launched as a relatively simple puzzle game for iOS devices.
However, the iOS version isn't around any more - the tale of CBE's travails with its original publisher is an epic all by itself - and the current version of the game has been updated and expanded into a more complex adventure game for Macs and Windows PCs.
You play Rachel Manners, an astrobiologist who is part of a mission sent to a newly discovered solar system that shows signs of intelligent life.
But as your ship approaches its destination you are woken from cryogenic sleep to discover that the ship has been damaged and that the rest of the crew are dead.
That leaves you on your own to repair the ship and then to uncover the mysteries of this new solar system.
Instead of simply wandering from room to room and using the standard point-and-click control system to manipulate objects, the game also allows you to interact with J.
You can also use your computer systems to examine the solar system around you, to upgrade Mobot, or make repairs to your ship.
And, of course, there's the central search for alien life that keeps the plot moving forward, eventually presenting you with a dilemma that will determine whether or not you ever return home to Earth.
Layers of Fear Company: Where to buy: £14.
However, Layers Of Fear is Aspyr's first original game, and was developed in conjunction with Polish developerswho claim to specialise in 'psychological horror games'.
In many ways, Layers Of Fear is a fairly conventional point-and-click adventure game, in which you take on the role of a painter who wanders around his creepy mansion as he attempts to finish his great masterpiece.
And, like many adventure games, Layers Of Fear throws you in at the deep end, with little information about what's going on, or what you need to do next.
That leaves you to wander from room to room, clicking on various objects that act as clues to the story that unfolds around you.
What isn't so conventional is the nightmarish atmosphere that the game conjures up during your explorations.
Doors slam shut behind you, or may even vanish altogether, trapping you in a room or forcing you to keep moving forward.
It's a bit tricky to discuss the plot without giving away too many spoilers, but it soon becomes apparent that there's something weird going on - either in the mansion itself, or in the mind of the painter.
Like the recent horror film, The Babadook, Layers Of Fear emphasises atmosphere over action, and may be a bit slow for people who like their horror games to come with hordes of shambling zombies.
But if you enjoy the slow unfolding of more psychological horror stories then you'll find plenty of chills to savour in Layers Of Fear.
Life Is Strange Company: Where to buy: £2.
You play a teenage girl called Max Caulfield who is having a bit of a bad day at school.
Max ducks out of class and heads to the bathroom for a time-out, and as you wander the school corridors you can click on objects or people around you to gather information that guides you through the game.
That's routine adventure stuff, but life starts to get strange when Max witnesses the murder of her friend Chloe - and discovers that she has the ability to turn back time.
Saving Chloe reveals a deeper mystery concerning a missing student called Rachel, so Max and Chloe set off to find Rachel and uncover the dark secrets of the sleepy town of Arcadia.
That's straightforward enough, but Chloe's time-travelling abilities add a whole new dimension to the standard point-and-click adventure format.
Sometimes a conversation with another character will reveal some useful information, allowing Chloe to go back and replay recent events so they have a different outcome.
However, changing past events can have unexpected consequences, leading to some difficult - and dangerous - decisions.
The story unfolds in five separate episodes, but you can check it out for free by downloading the first episode through Steam and then deciding if you want to explore the mystery further.
We enjoyed its haunting, Buffy-esque depiction of the dark side of teenage life, and our only complaint is that the keyboard-and-mouse controls felt a bit clumsy so you'll progress more smoothly if you have a proper game controller to help you out.
Life Is Strange: Before The Storm Deluxe Edition Company: Where to buy: £4.
The success of Life Is Strange lay in the emotional impact of the story as teenager Max Caulfield attempts to unravel the mystery surrounding the apparent death of her friend Chloe Price - along with a little help from Max's ability to rewind time and try to alter the course of aside! alices adventures in wonderland pc game for />The success of that first game was a potential problem for this new sequel, as it means that anyone who has played the original Life Is Strange already knows where the story is heading.
However, Before The Storm succeeds on its own terms, showing us more about Chloe's life and introducing a new character called Rachel Amber.
The main game is divided into three episodes, with the first episode setting the scene as Chloe and Rachel skip school and hang out together - and then discover a disturbing secret about Rachel's family life.
The next two episodes see the young girls tackling their personal problems and getting caught up with a small-town drug-dealer, and this Deluxe Edition also includes a fourth episode that acts as a prelude to the original Life Is Strange.
Before The Storm is a little more conventional than its predecessor, as it lacks the time-travel tricks of the original game.
However, it does introduce a new 'backtalk' dialogue system that acts as a kind of verbal sparring match that allows Chloe to talk her way out of tricky situations.
So while Before The Storm doesn't break any new ground, it stands right alongside Life Is Strange as an impressive piece of video-game storytelling.
It's a bit temperamental about system requirements, though, so check the Feral website online paddle pop adventure games free check compatibility with recent Mac models.
Lone Survivor Company: Where to buy: £11.
I don't mind playing older games, but games intentionally made to look bad ie pixellated usually annoy me.
But somehow this is not the case with Lone Survivor, a psychological-horror-survival game by indie Jasper Byrne.
Starving and exhausted, he has begun to question how much of what he sees is even real.
Do you cautiously explore the ruined city, creeping past monsters, or do you charge forth, shooting everything in your path?
Do you talk increasingly to your stuffed cat?
Do you take those mysterious pills before going to sleep at night?
What do those wacky dreams mean anyway?
Blending stealth, adventure, horror and survival together is a heady mix, but one that works well.
Haunting and moody music follows your every move as you descend further into madness… or out the city.
Which it will be is truly up to the player.
A free update entitled 'directors cut' added new effects, areas, endings, quests, music and more.
Indies certainly care about their games and it shows here.
Lone Survivor is a masterpiece in its class, and one I recommend to anyone, even if you aren't normally into pixelated games or horror agree adventure time games jumping finn turbo here />Jon Carr Mad Max Company: Where to buy: £15.
In any event, you take on the role of Mad Max Rockatansky, who discovers that his car, the Interceptor, has been stolen by the warlord Scabrous Scrotus and his band of Warboys.
Fortunately, Max is aided by Chumbucket, a mechanical genius and religious fanatic who believes that Max is some sort of motorised messiah.
Chumbucket offers to help Max build a new vehicle, called the Magnum Opus, so starting with a basic old rustbucket of a car, this odd couple strike out into the post-apocalyptic Wastelands, looking for upgrades to enhance the Magnum Opus, and fighting their way through rival bandit factions as Max seeks vengeance against Scrotus.
Much of the game concentrates on reproducing the car chases and action scenes from the Mad Max films, so most of the time you'll be in the driving seat of the Magnum Opus, crashing into your enemies and firing harpoons and other weapons along the way.
As well as hunting down Scrotus, there are also plenty of side quests that allow you to explore the vast open world of the Wastelands, and which reward you with additional loot, weapons and upgrades for the Magnum Opus.
And, to add some variety, you do occasionally jump out and get stuck in with some hand-to-hand combat as well.
Observer contains elements of several different gaming genres - it's part point-and-click adventure, walking simulation, horror-survival, and cyberpunk detective story - but it combines all those elements to create a unique, and sometimes unsettling, world of its own.
The story is clearly influenced by Blade Runner even down to casting Rutger Hauer as the voice of the game's hero, Daniel Lazarski.
It's set in the year 2084, after the world has been decimated by a combination of plague and war, and power has been seized by a mega-corporation called Chiron, which now rules over the Fifth Polish Republic.
Playing as Lazarski, you work for Chiron as a 'neural detective', who has the ability to hack into people's minds and explore their thoughts and dreams.
Lazarski receives a mysterious message from his son that leads him to a slum area in Krakow in Poland, which serves as one of the game's primary Blade Runner-esque settings.
Lazarski discovers a dead body in a seedy tenement building - but it's been decapitated, so he's not immediately sure whether the body belongs to his son.
That's where the point-and-click aspect of the game comes in, as you have to search around for clues to determine the identities of the victim and his killer.
However, the game throws in a cyber-twist of its own, as you can use cybernetic augmentations to enhance your vision and scan for electronic equipment or analyse biological material such as decapitated bodies….
This means that a crime scene may reveal different evidence best mac adventure games on which augmentations you decide to use.
And, of course, there's that neural augmentation - called the Dream Eater - that allows you to probe the minds of people that you meet.
Some of these slum-dwellers are drug users, so these sequences can often seem surreal and disturbing, whilst also containing clues and hints that will lead you forward in your investigation.
If you're just looking for a quick fix of gaming action then Observer might not be your cup of tea, but it's an absorbing and challenging experience of the sort that rarely appears on the Mac gaming scene.
Pulse Company: Where to buy: £5.
Pulse started off on Kickstarter back in 2013 but has https://fonstor.ru/adventure-games/adventure-games-of-disney-fairies.html been completed and is now available to purchase on Steam.
Most adventure games rely very heavily on visual cues, as you have to search the screen to locate objects or information that will help you to solve puzzles and progress through each stage of the game.
Pulse is awash with dream-like psychedelic visuals and lighting effects, but you actually rely on sounds to guide you through the game.
You play as a young blind girl called Eva, who sets out on a cryptically unexplained quest and uses sound to navigate her way through the world.
The game doesn't treat you as though you're completely blind, instead using strobe lighting and other effects to create the sort of radar-vision used by Daredevil - the blind superhero in Marvel's comic books and the excellent Netflix TV series.
Sometimes you'll only realise that you've bumped into something when the ambient soundtrack erupts into jangling chimes and other sound effects.
You can also 'explore' the world around you by chucking around cute little critters called Mokos, just to see if they create any sounds when they hit something.
It's a strange experience - and, at £10.
The system requirements are pretty high, though, so check the game out on Steam before downloading.
The Secret Of Monkey Island - Special Edition Company: Where to buy: £9.
It tells the same story, but decks it out with up-to-date graphics and music.
The game casts you in the role of Guybrush Threepwood, a swashbuckling young pirate searching for hidden treasure on the legendary Monkey Island.
Along the way you have to solve all sorts of puzzles, defeat the ghostly pirate LeChuck and win the heart of the beautiful Elaine Marley.
This version also includes a new help system that can give you the occasional hint for solving puzzles.
Fans of the original will appreciate the option that allows you to switch between the original graphics and the new version whenever you want.
This War of Mine Company: Where to buy: £14.
For one, it's based on real-life events and the experiences of war survivors.
Secondly, you actually play as civilians attempting to survive a war, not the gung-ho action hero or strategic commander you usually find yourself as in war games.
Lastly, this game is not meant to be fun - it is meant to be engaging and thought-provoking, and it accomplishes both.
This is a survival game.
You start with nothing in the way of supplies, and must scavenge for everything to stay alive.
By day, snipers prevent you from going out, so you reside in your shelter, taking care of your civilians, building new things and upgrading your shelter's defences against looters.
By night, you choose a survivor to send out on a scavenging run at a location of your choice.
This game is hard, and especially brutal if your first try starts you https://fonstor.ru/adventure-games/plants-vs-zombies-adventure-game-play-online.html in midwinter.
Wood must constantly be burned to prevent people from freezing to death, yet you also need wood to cook food so you don't starve.
However, wood is also needed to build and upgrade essential items around your shelter.
This delicate balance of resource management is one of the things that make this game so desperate, in addition to the psychological effects various actions and decisions have on your group.
Will you kill and steal to survive?
Will you try to trade instead to get by?
Will you sacrifice a survivor to keep others alive?
These harrowing choices are the core of the game's experience and will keep you playing a long time.

The story follows a young boy who goes in search of his Uncle Fred, an intrepid explorer who on this occasion seems to have gotten a bit carried away, and has gone missing in one of those Doctor Strange-esque inter-dimensional landscapes populated by floating islands and strange alien creatures.
The suit starts off with a single power-boost that helps you to jump around the various floating islands and platforms, and then you get a grappling hook as well, which gives you more freedom to explore the world around you.
There are alien encounters as well, but this is a strictly non-violent game, so rather than killing everything in sight, you can interact with the beings you meet, learn about their own stories, and maybe pick up a few clues about your uncle as well.
My jumping skills are clearly a bit rusty, and I best mac adventure games quite a few times even in the game's early tutorial section, but once you get the hang of it, A Story About My Uncle, is a fresh take on the traditional adventure game - and, with its focus on peaceful solutions to problems, is a good introduction to gaming for younger players too.
We also found the dialogue to be witty and humorous, adding some levity to the grim surroundings.
The final battle and events set the stage for even more to come in chapter 2.
If the 8-10 hour journey doesn't satisfy you the first time around, you can play again and make different choices, ending up with significantly different outcomes and endings.

Among The Stars Company: Where to buy: £14.
Among The Stars first time around, when it was originally launched as a relatively simple puzzle game for iOS devices.
However, the iOS version isn't around any more - the tale of CBE's travails with its original publisher is an epic all by itself read article and the current version of the game has been updated and expanded into a more complex adventure game for Macs and Windows PCs.
You play Rachel Manners, an astrobiologist who is part of a mission sent to a newly discovered solar system that shows signs of intelligent life.
But as your ship approaches its destination you best mac adventure games woken from cryogenic sleep to discover that the ship has been damaged and that the rest of the crew are dead.
That leaves you on your own to repair the ship and then to uncover the mysteries of this new solar system.
Instead of simply wandering from room to room and using the standard point-and-click control system to manipulate objects, the game also allows you to interact with J.
You can also use your computer systems best mac adventure games examine the solar system around you, to upgrade Mobot, or make repairs to your ship.
The success of Life Is Strange lay in the emotional impact of the story as teenager Max Caulfield attempts to unravel the mystery surrounding the apparent death of her friend Chloe Price - along with a little help from Max's ability to rewind time and try to alter the course of events.
The success of that first game was a potential problem for this new sequel, as it means that anyone who has played the original Life Is Strange already knows where the story is heading.
So while Before The Best mac adventure games doesn't break any new ground, it stands right alongside Life Is Strange as an impressive article source of video-game storytelling.
It's a bit temperamental about system requirements, though, so check the Feral website to check compatibility with recent Mac models.
Blending stealth, adventure, horror and survival together is a heady best mac adventure games, but one that works well.
Haunting and moody music follows your every move as you descend further into madness… or out the city.
Which it will be is truly up to the player.
A free update entitled 'directors cut' added new effects, areas, endings, quests, music and more.
Indies certainly care about their games and it shows here.
Lone Survivor is a masterpiece in with panda bear adventure games apologise class, and one I recommend to anyone, even if you aren't normally into pixelated games or horror titles.
Jon Carr Mad Max Company: Where to buy: £15.
In any event, you take on the alices adventures in wonderland pc game of Mad Max Rockatansky, who discovers that his car, the Interceptor, has been stolen by the warlord Scabrous Scrotus and his band of Warboys.
The plot does feel a little thin at times, but the action sequences are as fast and furious as Fury Road itself - and fully deserving the game's 18 https://fonstor.ru/adventure-games/best-text-adventure-games-android.html - so if you enjoyed the film then this Mad Max game is the closest thing you'll get to a sequel, while we wait for the real thing to come along.
This means that a crime scene may reveal different evidence depending on which augmentations you decide to use.
Pulse started off on Kickstarter back in 2013 but has recently been completed and is now available to purchase on Steam.
You can also 'explore' the world around you by chucking around cute little critters called Mokos, just to see if they create any sounds when they hit something.
link a strange experience - and, at £10.
This is best mac adventure games survival game.
This game is hard, and especially brutal if your first try starts you off in midwinter.

Stardew Valley is the country-life RPG that took everyone by surprise, shattering sales records on Steam.
This pixelated farming simulator is a tribute to the old Harvest Moon games and follows a boy who inherits a farm.

Civilization 5 was one of my favorite strategy games of all times and yet Civilization 6 managed to top it.
In Civ 6, you take control of an entire civilization.
You get to create cities, raise armies, research technologies, build an economy, and expand your empire.
Firaxis managed to create something that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.
Civ 6 brings welcome additions such as complex city-planning and hundreds of other improvements.
Also, Civ 6 also sports improved graphics, making it the best-looking turn-based strategy game today.

Total War: Warhammer 2 Total War: Warhammer 2Total War: Warhammer 2 is both the latest and the best Total War experience available on macOS and Windows-PC for that matter.
Warhammer 2 stays true to the Total War formula and combines a turn-based campaign with real-time battles.
And like every Total War game that came before it, the game's battles are huge, counting hundreds of units fighting at once.
Yet, just like the first Total War: Warhammer, the realistic scenarios of ancient Europe are left behind in favor of a fantastical setting that includes armies of orcs, undead, monsters, flying creatures, legendary heroes and more.
Plus, Feral Interactive managed to take one the best looking strategy games of all times and deliver a solid Mac version that plays and looks as good as the Windows version.
Strategy High No Paladins PaladinsInitially seen as a mere Overwatch clone, Paladins has proven to be so much more than that.
Paladins is an incredibly solid shooter that handles great but also manages to capture the same diversity that made Overwatch so famous.
You can play as sharpshooting humans, mech-riding goblins, mystical elves, and even jetpack-clad dragons!
Teamwork is key to victory, so choose your Champion wisely and set up a diverse team that communicates well.
Paladins is free-to-play and anything you can buy can also be acquired by playing.
Shooter Medium Yes Hitman HitmanAgent 47 is back with yet another excellent stealth action adventure.
Inyour job is to infiltrate complex locations full of secrets, weapons, disguises and, of course, targets to eliminate.
Most games ask you to run and shoot at everything that moves.
Hitman asks you to do the opposite—to be invisible.
Hitman will ask you to think for a change and figure out the best way to approach the situation at hand, taking into account environments and enemies.
This sixth installment in the series brings the graphics to a whole new level.
The Sims are back, and this fourth edition is the most sophisticated life simulation you can play.
The Sims 4 lets you build a house, adventure time games jumping finn turbo a Sim character, and dress him.
On the plus side, Maxis has learned a lot, and worthwhile additions include the ability to multitask and improved character creation.
Simulation Medium No Dead Cells Dead CellsMetroidvania games may be a dime a dozen, but Dead Cells is probably the best Castlevania-like game released since, well, Castlevania.
Dead Cells is an action platformer that is all about dying to start over in order to progress and acquire new abilities.
The skills you unlock as you explore the procedurally generated levels are permanent, so you get to keep them even when you die.
These skills will allow you to reach new areas each time you head out, allowing you to dig deeper into the game every time you play.
The action is presented in a 2D retro-inspired world that will make fans of classic Castlevania and Metroid feel right at home.
Platformer Low No Into the Breach Into the BreachFrom the developers that brought us FTL: Faster Than Light comes another excellent turn-based strategy game.
In Into the Breach, you'll have to protect the world from enormous monsters that are set to destroy the few remaining cities still standing.
Luckily, you'll have a few giant mechs at your disposal to get rid of them.
Or at least try.
Into the Breach is a simple game to get into, yet missions can quickly get dicey.
You'll often have to make hard choices and either loss a mech or city.
And by the way, this is one of the few games that actually encourages you to protect civilians instead of simply killing the monsters.
Strategy Low No Subnautica SubnauticaSubnautica is a massive open-world adventure game that takes place underwater.
Open-world games on Mac are rare and the few that exist take place in the tired post-apocalyptic desserts we all know too well.
Adventure Medium No Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveGlobal Offensive is the latest Counter Strike CS in the series.
Like previous entries, Global Offensive is an objective-based multiplayer first-person shooter.
Players are either terrorists or counter-terrorists and must complete objectives or kill the opposing team.
There is no single-player here, but the multiplayer precision makes up for it.
CS games are famous for being ultra-competitive—precise, punishing, and nothing like Call of Duty.
Global Offensive does exactly what you would expect from a Counter-Strike game, but it also manages to refresh the experience.
The game features classic content such as revamped versions of classic maps, as well as new maps and game modes.
Most know Bear adventure games 2 because it's one of the most competitive and challenging games out there.
New units and balance changes make Legacy of the Void faster and even more challenging—perfect for skilled players.
But Legacy of the Void also offers a variety of new elements, especially for casual players thank god.
It also introduces a fun cooperative mode that involves special characters and missions.
Blizzard did a stellar job with StarCraft 2's Mac version.
This is one of the best-looking strategy games, but it doesn't require too much power to run.
Strategy Low No Owlboy OwlboyIndie adventure games are a dime a dozen these days and it's getting harder to be impressed anymore.
This doesn't apply toa game that took almost 10 years to be made, and it shows.
You can swap your sidekick at any time, making the game feel fluid and varied.
But what struck me the most were the graphics.
Owlboy features some of the most beautiful pixel-art worlds in recent memory and the fact it can be played in modest hardware makes it even better.
Adventure Medium No Guild Wars 2 Guild Wars 2Guild Wars 2 is not just another MMO.
Nothing special, except it does have unique twists.
Guild Wars 2 offers its best features without asking a dime.
That makes it the best Mac MMO hands down.
You should try the free version first to see how your machine handles it.
MMO Medium Yes Tales from the Borderlands Tales from the BorderlandsTales from the Borderlands is a great point-and-click adventure game from Telltale.
But why did I list this one and not their take on Game of Thrones or Minecraft?
Based on the Borderlands series, the game follows the same formula as before: some puzzle-solving, lots of dialogue, and huge choices to make.
Choices here matter, and the consequences will be felt throughout the game.
And because of the simple graphics, this game can be enjoyed on most hardware.
But when developer Colossal Order saw the mess that SimCity was, they went for it.
Cities: Skylines is a city-building simulation similar to SimCity.
The game gives you control of zoning areas for housing, commerce, or industrypublic utilities, taxation, public transportation, and more.
The gameplay is so deep, even your choice of civic policies will affect the development of the entire city.
This game does demand some horsepower to run, though.
Strategy Medium No The Witness The WitnessAfter more than a year waiting for it, The Witness is finally available for Mac.

Well, this open-world puzzle game comes from Jonathan Blow, the man behind the now indie classic Braid.
Many wondered, myself included, if Bow could do it again and deliver another great indie.
Turns out, he did.

The game features dozens of locations to explore and over 500 puzzles.
That is enough to keep you busy for tens of hours, while respecting you as an intelligent player every step of the way.

Each puzzle brings its own new idea into the mix and it treats your time as precious.
Adventure Medium No Max Payne 3 Max Payne 3Max Payne 3 was a difficult game to include here.
This third-person shooter from the creators of Grand Theft Auto is a great game, but the problem is the macOS version itself.
Many have reported bugs that can at best detract from the whole experience and at worst break the game.
The game itself follows the story of former detective and vigilante Max Payne.
Long story short, the game will ask you to kill.
But the best part is the variety of tools at your disposal.
If you are worried about potential technical issues, pick up the game on Steam they can offer refunds.
In any case, Max Payne 3 is demanding.
Action Medium No Company of Heroes 2 Company of Heroes 2Company of Heroes 2 is the sequel to the famous Company of Heroes, one of the best real-time strategy games ever created.
The game takes place during World War 2, but luckily it moves away from the tired battles we all know too well Battle of Normandy, anyone?
Instead, it focuses on the infamous battles led by the Red Army on the eastern front.
visit web page of Heroes 2 has improved the formula in other ways too.
For example, the weather effects and destructible environments are amazing.
This is currently my go-to strategy game, and in my opinion, one of the finest strategy games today.
And if I ever want to take a break from the campaign, I know the skirmish mode can provide a quick 20 minutes of fun.
For a strategy game, Company of Heroes 2 looks amazing.
The downside to that are the steep system requirements.
Strategy High No Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham CityBatman: Arkham City is the latest Batman action-adventure game available on Mac.
The first Arkham game surprised us all, showing the world that superhero games could be fun.
Arkham City took that same recipe and improved everything.
The story is good, the graphics look great, and the environments are bigger than ever.
But what makes this game great is the combat.
The combat involves dodging, counter-attacking, and building combos.
It sounds simple, but everything is smooth and feels great.
Just take on a gang of 11 thugs and you'll see what I mean.
As Batman, this game makes you feel powerful and fast.
Feral Interactive did a great job with Arkham City's Mac port.
For such a big and beautiful game, the system requirements aren't too high.
Action Medium No Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced EditionDivinity: Original Sin is one of the best RPGs available today.
This is a very traditional RPG.
However, everything it does, it does well.
The game includes turn-based combat, cooperative multiplayer, an interactive world, and even a modding tool.
And it goes much deeper than that—it offers freedom and depth.
Your choices really matter in such a way that even mundane events become interesting.
Original Sin was a big success when it was first released, and now the remastered edition makes it even better.
It fixes the awful menus and makes everything simpler.
It even includes new content, such as an expanded storyline and new gameplay options.
Role-Playing Medium No Terraria TerrariaTerraria is a side-scrolling game that lets you build, dig, and explore.
This makes the exploration side of the game extremely fun.
Plus, there are lots of creeps, so crafting a shelter, weapons, and combat play an important role.
The crafting system is ridiculously deep and gives you tons of options to create weapons.
Terraria is very similar to Minecraft.
In fact, many see it as Minecraft in 2D, but once you start playing, you will notice all the things that make it unique.
There are many more creeps to kill, tons of weapons to craft, and even bosses.
Like Minecraft, the game uses retro graphics that are cute but also happen to be easy on your Mac.
If you happen to enjoy other Blizzard games like StarCraft or World of Warcraftthe experience is even better.

Compared to the reigning champion, League of Legends, this is a more team-oriented best mac adventure games beginner-friendly experience.
Heroes of the Storm is currently myand if you ever wanted to give the MOBA genre a try, this is your best choice.

Just like its predecessor, Mankind Divided can be played like an action game, a stealth game, or a combination of both.
Shooter High No The Elder Scrolls Online The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel UnlimitedThe Elder Scrolls Online is the latest big MMORPG to join the party.
It was also the first Elder Scrolls to come to macOS and the first to attempt multiplayer.
This created impossibly high expectations that made the game suffer at launch.
But that was in 2014, when the game required an upfront purchase and a monthly subscription.
A lot has changed since.
Relaunched as Tamriel Unlimited, it introduced lots of new features and changed for the better.
The monthly subscription disappeared, and now you only need to buy the game once.
At the end of the day, this game is similar to World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2.
But if you really want to play an Elder Scrolls on your Mac, Tamriel Unlimited is a good choice.

Simulation Low No Towerfall: Ascension Towerfall: AscensionDo you remember the good old days when you and your buddies would play games in your living room?
Yep, that was a long time ago, and with most games moving to online multiplayer only, Towerfall is refreshing.
In Towerfall, you are one of four archers that battle it out until one player remains.
You can only use arrows and head-stomps to kill your opponents.
The formula is quite simple, but Towerfall is packed with some exhilarating moments.
It definitely reminds me of the fun I had with the first Smash Brothers on the GameCube.
Towerfall: Ascension is the perfect game for offline sessions with friends.
System requirements: OS X 10.
Platformer Low No Rocket League Rocket LeagueThis game is a one of the most popular multiplayer games you can play online.
You have to learn to use your rockets to boost yourself in the air to score amazing goals or saves.
Timing is everything and becoming good requires skill.
Needless to say, these matches are intense.
But the feeling when you score a goal is priceless.
Pro tip: Precision is key and a controller is highly recommended.
You can learn to play the game against bots, but Rocket League truly shines when playing with friends.
Sports Medium No Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Diablo 3: Reaper of SoulsMany consider Diablo 3 the king of action RPGs.
And I tend to agree.
In Diablo 3, you get to create a character and set out to defeat the Lord of Terror himself.
Diablo 3 is about killing waves of monsters and getting tons of loot.
It adds many features and changes Diablo 3 for the better.
The graphics aren't impressive, but with that much action happening at once, you will need a good machine to run Diablo 3.
Luckily, Blizzard takes good care of all their Mac ports.
Torchlight 2 is one of the finest hack-and-slash RPGs available.
Compared to Diablo, it offers character customization, more flexibility, no mandatory internet connection, and pets!

It reminds me of Theme Hospital and Zoo Tycoon and feels like the successor they deserved.
In Prison Architect, you get to manage your very own maximum-security prison.
In Sandbox mode, you start off with an empty plot of land that you can transform into the most efficient prison you can craft.
You can build cells and kitchens, install cameras, hire guards, and so on.
Prison Architect provides a lot of freedom, and you can take whichever direction you prefer.
Want to build a monstrous maximum security prison or a comfortable rehabilitation center?
The choice is yours.
The graphics are very simplistic, though, but at least an older Mac should be able to run it.
LotRO is a traditional MMO.
You control a character that will need to fetch quests and kill monsters to level up and become stronger.
There are many free-to-play MMOs out there, but LotRO is the best one.
Am I saying this because I'm a Lord of the Rings geek?
Plus, LotRO offers a ton of content before forcing you to pay for anything.
As with most MMOs, LotRO requires a reliable internet connection.
MMO Low Yes Transistor TransistorTransistor is an action RPG from the same developer that did Bastion.
That alone put the game on my radar.
Like Bastion, Transistor also has a narrator that keeps you company as you play.
Surprisingly, it still works just as well as it did before and comes from the same voice actor.
Transistor includes many RPG elements, but the real highlight is the combat.
Combat can take place both in real-time and also in a planning mode where you can pause the action.
As you level up, you gain more combat skills, and you will have to plan your attacks carefully.
Role-Playing Medium No Star Wars: KOTOR 2 Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic 2Knights of the Old Republic games are some of the most famous RPGs of all time.
KOTOR 2 is very similar to the original KOTOR.
KOTOR 2 picks up around five years after the events from the original game and features a more complex moral system, a new influence system, better combat, and a great story.
KOTOR 2 is certainly old first released in 2005but Aspyr remastered it and released it for the first time on Mac last year.
This new version includes Steam Workshop support, achievements, controller support, and native widescreen resolution support.
There has never been a better time to experience KOTOR 2 than now.
System requirements: OS X 10.
This is a hardcore role-playing game that is both difficult and dark.
It offers tactical combat and tons of RPG elements.
Four of them are fully customizable, with many skills, stats, and appearances to choose from.
The remaining three are NPCs with their own agendas and motivations.
Role-Playing Medium No BioShock Infinite BioShock InfiniteBioShock Infinite is one of my favorite first-person shooters.
It may not offer multiplayer, but its terrific single-player campaign makes up for it.
The story is a little weird, especially near the end, but both Elizabeth—the girl you have to rescue—and the flying city of Columbia take the game to a whole new level.
Elizabeth is the best NPC I have ever seen.
Columbia is simply unique and beautiful.
They will both be remembered for a long time.
In spite its beautiful graphics, the game can run smoothly on a decent Mac.
Shooter Medium No Team Fortress 2 Team Fortress 2 is a free-to-play shooter from Valve, the company I used to see as a blessing for gaming, but is starting to.
TF2 is a team-based FPS that lets you choose among nine classes.
After choosing a character, you then join a team and battle in a variety of game modes, including capture the flag and king of the hill.
But no matter the game mode, nothing beats a good combination of players who know how to use their classes.
Shooter Medium Yes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Modern Warfare 3 is the latest Call of Duty available on Mac.
Sure, newer ones are available on Windows, but this installment is still a great action-packed first-person shooter.
Modern Warfare 3 follows the winning Call of Duty formula.
You get a campaign full of Hollywood-esque movie moments and a multiplayer mode, where most gamers spend 99% of their time.
And to make the Mac version even better, it supports cross-multiplayer with Windows, letting you play against the thousands of active Windows users.
Kudos to porting studio Aspyr there.
Shooter Medium No Left 4 Dead 2 Left 4 Dead 2Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter that takes place during a zombie outbreak.
The game focuses on four survivors who have to make their way to a safe house.
As one of the survivors, you will have to fight hordes of monsters ranging from zombies to larger creatures.
The missions are dynamically altered and will adjust the difficulty and quantity of monsters as you go.
This will keep things interesting and challenging no matter your skills.
Left 4 Dead 2 is a fun game in and of itself, but it's even better with friends.
This is one of the best cooperative games out there, and it would be a shame to miss all the added fun.
Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't have particularly impressive graphics, but with so much action happening at once, you will need a recent Mac to run it.
Who would want to play a game about driving a truck?
First of all, this game is both a truck-driving simulator and a business management simulator.
You start as a freelance driver delivering goods to win money and XP.
But once you have enough saved up, you can buy your own truck and start running your own business.
You also get to travel across Europe and explore dozens of cities from the UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and many more.
But more importantly, the actual driving is quite good.
The handling is precise, the scenery beautiful, and the attention to detail impressive.
All this works together to create a relaxing and almost hypnotic driving experience.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a good-looking game too and you'll need a modern Mac to run it smoothly.
Yet, the team behind it continued working hard and now X-Plane 11 promises to be the most detailed, realistic, and modern flight simulator ever created.
In fact, as far as simulation games for Mac go, this one is can't miss.
X-Plane 11 is quite an achievement because it appeals to both detail-obsessed geeks and recreational enthusiast.
In both cases, the realistic 3-D cockpits, the busy airports, and the beautiful sceneries will let you absorb the beauty of flight.
X-Plane 11 can be an impressive looking game too.
Turn all settings to high and the game will populate the world with buildings and roads.
Turn them to low and it should be able to run on modest hardware.
Simulation Medium No League of Legends League of Legends is the most popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game MOBA there is.
Over 12 million players crawl the servers every day!
If you're looking for good games for Mac, look no further.
In League of Legends, players form two teams that compete against each other.
The game has over 120 champions to choose from, each with unique abilities, weaknesses, and strengths.
This makes it a hard game to learn and master.
Their community is known for being a bit aggressive, so expect some abuse if you mess up!
But do you know what really makes LoL worth a shot anyway?
But in case you missed the most famous indie of all time, Minecraft lets you use blocks to build anything and everything you could ever imagine.
I can barely build a fort, but some people have recreated the Death Star, Rohan, and more.
Minecraft is also a survival game.
Monsters come out at night, so make sure you build a shelter.
You will also have to find food, craft weapons, and explore to find useful resources.
Plus, retro graphics mean that Minecraft can run on most Macs, including my 13-inch Macbook Air.
Adventure Low No Kerbal Space Program Kerbal Space ProgramKerbal Space Program was so good, it was a huge success even in beta—a feat only the likes of Minecraft can be proud of.
In KSP, you take control of an entire space program.
You get to build spacecrafts and launch them.
It sounds simple, but this is a hardcore physics simulator where you will fail.
And the cute characters and sense of humor certainly help too.
Kerbal Space Program is complex, fun, and extremely rewarding.
And it also happens to have reasonable system requirements.
Simulation Medium No EVE Online EVE OnlineEVE Online is an incredibly vast MMORPG based in a science fiction space setting.
In EVE, you can choose from a variety of professions including mining, manufacturing, trading, piracy, and more.

If you like space combat, you should definitely give it a shot.
MMO Medium No Homeworld Remastered Collection Homeworld Remastered CollectionFirst released in 1999 and 2003, Homeworld 1 and 2 feature huge Star Wars-like space battles that were nothing short of amazing.
The Remastered Collection brings polished graphics, high-res textures, better lighting effects, and a new UI—enough to compete against modern games.
This, combined with a great story and atmosphere, makes this collection a must.
For a long time, players debated whether this was the best strategy game of all time, and now that both Homeworld games have been modernized, the debate can continue.
Strategy Medium No Europa Universalis 4 Europa Universalis 4Europa Universalis 4 had an ambitious goal: to be more accessible to newcomers without sacrificing the depth the series is loved for.
Developer succeeded, creating the finest grand strategy game out there.
Because a nation cannot excel everywhere, you will need to make some decisions.

The entirety of Earth can be owned, conquered, and colonized.
Strategy Medium No Doki Doki Literature Club!
Doki Doki Literature Club!
Doki Doki Literature Club is actually a psychological horror game in disguise.
It all starts innocently, though.
You play as a character that is part of a high school literary club.
You get to write poems and flirt with the various girls in the club.
But things take a turn when the objective becomes keeping the girls alive.
Strangely enough, this is one of the few games that try to be many different things at once and succeeds.
Horror Low No SUPERHOT SUPERHOTWho knew?
In Superhot, time only moves when you move.
Most shooters are about quick reflexes.
Superhot is about stopping to take the time to figure out your next move.
You will often be surrounded, and pausing time will be your best weapon.
Once you learn how to use it, you will be able to dodge bullets, aim for headshots, and pretty much kick ass.
Your enemies are made of glass, and watching them explode is priceless.
Plus, the lack of detailed textures gives this game moderate system requirements and should play fine on most modern Macs.
Shooter Medium No Sleeping Dogs Sleeping DogsThe Grand Theft Auto Trilogy used to be my top recommendation when it came to open-world games on Mac.
But then Sleeping Dogs came to finally deliver a worthy, modern experience.
Taking place in Hong Kong, you play as an undercover cop that aims to take down the Triad.
The game plays a lot like Grand Theft Auto.
In fact, it can look extremely good when all the settings are maxed out, but you can lower the settings to enjoy it on more average hardware.
Action Medium No Dawn of Apologise, dinosaur adventure games confirm 3 Dawn of War 3Dawn of War 3 was a big surprised when it was released earlier this year.
First, because it was the first Dawn of War game since 2009, and second, because it improved upon everything the first two entries did before.
Just like Dawn of War 2, the game focuses on hero units and upgrades, and instead of encouraging you to build huge armies, it encourages you to upgrade your most experienced units and heroes.
Dawn of War 3 also brings more polish, an exciting 17-mission campaign, and cross-platform multiplayer between macOS and Linux.
Dawn of War 3 comes with great graphics too.

Some gamers told me it was full of bugs.

The combat is fine, but the social and political mechanics are what make this game shine.
There are assassinations, marriages, bribes, and countless other situations that you can make work in your favor.
Honestly, some situations are just crazy.
Does your mother want to kill your brother?
Did you discover your son likes to mutilate animals?
This shows the commitment from the developer to create something unique.
The game is stable and runs fine even on older Macs.
Strategy Medium No Celeste CelesteThis 2D platformer comes from the same developers behind TowerFall: Ascension, one of our ever.
Celeste centers around a young girl named Madeline and her adventure to the top of Celeste Mountain.
Jump, dash, climb, die, jump, dash, climb, advance.
They are all linear, but they offer plenty of different routes and ways to advance.

For a first-person game, Portal 2's Mac version isn't too demanding and can be played on a relatively modest setup.
Action Low No Hotline Miami Hotline MiamiIt was hard to choose between the original Hotline Miami and the sequel.
Hotline Miami is an ultra-violent top-down shooter set in 1989.
The game tells the story of two characters who have to commit massacres against the Russian Mafia in Miami.
But what made this game an indie classic was the way it combined stealth and extreme violence, along with a soundtrack and visuals that perfectly matched that 1980s feeling.
The gameplay is simple but this web page and solid.
You will want to retry levels for the sake of getting a perfect score.
Hotline Miami 2 did a lot of the same, but it never managed to be as good as the original.
If in doubt, get the cheaper and better Hotline Miami and thank me later.
This is a retro game that can run on even older Macs.
The game follows the story of a highschool senior.
Although she looks like sarah adventures games online average teenager, she can actually rewind time and affect the past, present, and future.

Adventure Medium No Her Story Her StoryHer Story is a difficult game to categorize, and that makes it the most original game on this list.

The interviews are broken up into hundreds of pieces, but as you watch more and more clips, everything starts to make sense.
Your job is to explore and search the huge database until you can eventually piece together her story.
Adventure Low No BioShock Remastered BioShock RemasteredThe original BioShock was a monument to gaming.
It had excellent gameplay, story, and graphics.
Unfortunately, it was starting to become too old to wholeheartedly recommend it.
That is no longer the case with the release of BioShock Remastered.
This new version features improved graphics, 5K resolution support, finer textures and better effects.
If you missed your chance to visit the infamous underwater city of Rapture the first time around, BioShock Remastered will give you another opportunity to experience one of the most original shooters from the past two decades.
This is a game that won perfect scores from many critics, multiple awards, and is one of my personal favorite horror games.

This makes every enemy encounter an elaborate dance.
This is a roguelike game too, and every dungeon is randomly generated.

Dying Light also supports Steam Play and Cross-platform multiplayer.
Enough to make this my favorite shooter right now.

The Banner Saga offers many twists.
For example, instead of focusing on one hero, it focuses on the caravan as a whole.

Role-Playing Low No Fez FezFez is the most original and successful indie game on this best mac adventure games />In Fez, you control Gomez, a character who can see both the 2D and 3D worlds around him.
This gives you the ability to actually rotate the world and see all four sides of it.
And that makes all the difference.
This perspective gives this game a special touch, but it also makes the puzzles all the more difficult.
There are no enemies to distract you, but trust me, you will need all your focus to solve those puzzles.
Like many indie platformers, Fez uses a retro look and lots of colors to look good.
The graphics won't blow your mind, but on the plus side, it runs on even older Macs.

This means you can play Hyper Light Drifter on your MacBook without a problem.

You can also interrogate people and request fingerprints or even a full-body scan.
Simulation Low No The Talos Principle The Talos PrincipleThe Talos Principle is one of the few first-person games that focuses on something other than guns.
This game is full of clever puzzles and reminds me of Portal, which is a hell of a compliment.
There are 120 puzzles in total, and they're all hard enough to make you feel smart once you figure them out.
The game provides a lot of tools to succeed too.
There are blocks, signal jammers, lasers, motion-recording devices, and even turrets.

As a noob guitar player myself, I can tell you that this game can really teach you the basics.
You can start at the lowest difficulty to learn how a guitar works, or you can set the difficulty to 100 and actually learn to play the real song.
Rocksmith 2014 takes the teaching part seriously and offers over 85 lessons covering bends, accents, slides, and more.
I love this game because it can really teach you something in a fun way.
Simulation Low No Super Meat Boy Super Meat BoySuper Meat Boy is an indie platformer known for being ruthless—in a good way.
This game is hard, and you will have to die a lot.
You will die hundreds of times, but the sense of accomplishment is much bigger because of it.
Super Meat Boy actually evokes fond memories of best mac adventure games when games were hard.
The game offers more than 300 levels, all filled with traps like fans, rockets, lava pits, and other things designed to crush you.
And you can only run and jump to survive.
This may sound simplistic, but Super Meat Boy has tight controls that will reward skill.
Super Meat Boy's Mac version is lightweight and will run smoothly even on older Macs.
Platformer Low No Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is yet play mermaid adventure gem from Blizzard.
Can you really call a collectible card game a gem?
You can if the game is this much fun!
Based on the popular Warcraft universe, Hearthstone is a simple game to grasp.
In every match, you pull three or four cards depending on who goes first out of your customized deck of 30 cards.
There are different card types, but the aim is simple: kill you opponent.
The rules are easy, but the strategy behind the game is complex, challenging, and satisfying.
Hearthstone is an excellent strategy game, and I'd recommend it to anybody.
Granted, many Alien games have come and gone, and most were bad.
But Isolation is different.
For the first time ever, an Alien game finally captured the essence of the original film.
This is truly a scary game, and the Alien is to be feared and respected.
All you can do is run and hide.
The game does take place in an abandoned space station, which offers many places to hide.
Alien: Isolation is the complete package.
The story is interesting, the gameplay is solid, and the graphics are beautiful.
It runs great and is bug-free.
Not to be confused with Cave Story +, this is a great game you can get for free.
Cave Story looks and plays like an old NES game, but beneath that pixelated exterior lies a good story with fun gameplay.
In Cave Story, you can explore underground caves, upgrade your weapons, and search for secret loot.
An enhanced version is available on Steam, but you can always try the community-driven free version.
The game gives you control of a ship carrying critical information.
Problem is, a large enemy fleet is on your tail.
You must guide the ship through several planetary systems to escape, and each comes with random events that will put you to the test—an enemy ship, a pirate, or something else.
At the same time, you'll have to recruit new crew members and upgrade your ship.
Combat takes place in real time and leaves no room for mistakes.
Death is permanent, and losing click ship or crew will force you to start all over again.
Strategy Low No Dwarf Fortress Dwarf FortressDwarf Fortress plays in a different league.
Part construction and management, part roguelike, and to top it all off, text-based, Dwarf Fortress is unique.
A typical Dwarf Fortress game involves a randomly generated world in which you control a group of dwarves and attempt to build an underground fortress.
Needless to say, without much direction and text-based graphics, this game is hard.
Many consider it the most complex video game ever created, and the game is notorious for being difficult.
Also, text-based graphics may not sound sexy, but at least you can play this even on the old Mac Mini you found at a garage sale.
This is a beautiful, open-world adventure game that looks great and plays even better.
Set in the Lord of the Rings universe, Shadow of Mordor combines melee combat, stealth, exploration, and parkour.
But what sets it apart is that everything it does, it does well.
But it gets better.
The game also uses the Nemesis System, which allows your enemies to remember all previous confrontations and react accordingly.
This game packs some serious graphics, and managed to bring us a solid port.
Action High No Firewatch FirewatchThis first-person adventure game caught everyone by surprise.
No one expected it to be so damn good.
Firewatch tells the story of a fire lookout stationed in a forest.
After some mysterious occurrences, you set out to explore the forest in search of answers.
Your only form of communication is a walkie-talkie, and the way you choose to respond will influence your relationships.
This is a great game that feels like an adult game with realistic issues.
That drives the story to a level we are no longer used to.
Plus, the forest is beautiful and full of breathtaking sights.
I just finished the game and totally understand why it's one of Macworld's.
Developer took Firewatch's Mac version very seriously.
They are working on adding metal support to make it even better.
Adventure High No Trine 2 Trine 2Trine 2 is a fun platformer that can be played with friends.
This side-scroller game lets up to three players use Amadeus the wizard, Zoya the thief, and Pontius the knight.
Each has special skills that will help you solve specific puzzles and progress.
This game takes place in a beautiful universe too.
Trine 2 is a fairytale adventure and it shows, featuring detailed environments that can really make you stop and enjoy the view.
Trine 3 came out not too long ago, but Trine 2 is still a better and cheaper game.
Also, the slightly older Trine 2 can be player on weaker machines.
Platformer Low No Grim Fandango: Remastered Grim Fandango: RemasteredGrim Fandango is one of the finest adventure games ever created, but it was starting to feel too outdated for new gamers.
Enter Grim Fandango: Remastered, an attempt to bring the game back to modernity.
The game follows the story of afterlife travel agent Manny Calavera and revolves around engaging other characters, collecting objects, and solving puzzles.
Originally released in 1998, Double Fine remastered and brought improved textures, 3D models, modern control schemes, a new soundtrack, and new lighting effects to this updated version.
Adventure games age well, but the updated graphics are a welcome addition.
As can be expected from a remastered old classic, the game looks good but is still easy to run on most modern hardware.
Adventure Medium No Outlast OutlastOutlast is a first-person horror game that many consider to be the scariest game available on Mac.
As a freelance journalist investigating a psychiatric hospital lost in the mountains, you soon realize that was a bad idea.
Hell breaks loose, and you find yourself in the middle of mutilated corpses, terrified inmates, insane doctors, and disfigured patients.
And to make matters worse, you are completely incapable of combat.
With no way to fight, you basically have two choices: run or hide.
Either way, the game plays beautifully.
It offers tons of places to hide, and if you decide to run for it, the gameplay is fluid and fast.
Horror High No F1 2017 F1 2017Serious racing fans, this one is for you.
F1 2017 is the ultimate Formula 1 simulation game available on Mac.
The game features the official 2017 World Championship, including the full calendar of 21 tracks and roster of 22 drivers from 11 teams.
But beyond yearly updates, F1 2017 introduced improved graphics, a new gameplay mode, invitational events, and pretty much everything a Formula 1 fan could ask for.
In fact, I believe this is the best looking racing game you can play on MacOS.
Feral Interactive used Metal to ensure the game runs as smoothly as possible, but this is still an extremely demanding game.
Racing High No XCOM 2 XCOM 2XCOM 2 is the follow-up to the amazing XCOM: Enemy Unknown and a gentle reminder that Mac gaming is.
As expected, this turn-based strategy game plays and looks much better than its predecessor.
The critics love it.
In XCOM 2, humans lost the war against the aliens and have to resort to guerilla tactics to fight back.
This changes the way the game plays and paves the way for cool features, such as the ability to hide from the aliens.
One word of caution, though—this game looks great but is very demanding.
Strategy High No Rust RustOnline survival games are a dime a dozen now days.
Yet, there are a few that still capture the intensity that made the genre famous to begin with.
Rust is the perfect example.
Rust is a game about doing whatever it takes to survive in a post apocalyptic world.
You start with practically nothing and must scavenge the basics to survive: food, shelter, fire, and weapons.
The world is full of savage beast that will attack you on sight, but the real danger are other human players.
You can technically team up with others to increase your chances of survival, but people usually end up killing each other.
Rust uses the Unity engine and is as stable as can be expected from an open-world online game.
Still, the game takes place in huge environments and requires decent hardware and a fast internet connection.
Action Medium No Play games for adventure 2033 Redux Metro 2033 ReduxMetro 2033 is a horror first-person shooter taking place in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Russia.
Metro: Last Light is the sequel, but developer 4A Games decided to remaster the original Metro 2033 and include all the improvements and goodies from the original.
For a long time, Metro 2033 was used as a benchmark to test the latest graphics cards—it looked that good.
So why on earth was it remastered?
Well, turns out Metro 2033 had a lot to learn from the newer Last Light.
This is a true remaster with polishes, improved lighting and weather effects, expanded environments, and even new features, such as weapon customization.
If you missed Metro 2033 the first time, Metro 2033 Redux is the perfect excuse to try one of the best-looking games you can play on Mac.
Be careful though, you'll require a powerful machine.
Shooter High No Limbo LimboIn the same vein as Braid, Limbo is a platformer that managed to create something unique in a crowded niche.
In Limbo, you guide a boy through dangerous places in search of his missing sister.
The environments not only look gloomy, they are full of puzzles, traps, and monsters.
And those deaths are quite gruesome too, making the experience a little more tense.
Limbo uses simple graphics to create a dark and nightmarish feel.
That simplicity provides another benefit—you can play Limbo even on older Macs.
Platformer Low No It can be hard to remain objective when selecting the best of anything.
Each and every one of the games mentioned here are officially supported on MacOS and do not require Bootcamp or Wine.
Focus on MacOS performance: Many of the games featured here have been tested on several Macs as part of our dedicated guides.
