Sitting here in Hawaii on vacation after opening up my brand new GoPro Hero 5 from Costco and when I went to install the SD card next to the battery I apparently put it in the wrong slot. Yes, this model has what looks like 2 slots but of course only one is the actually slot.

Enjoy!

GoPro SD Card Recommendations for the GoPro HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session What is the best GoPro SD Card for the GoPro HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session?
Here are some recommendations for cards that work well in these cameras, are cost-effective, readily available, and reliable.
Any of these make for a good choice.
If the card is too slow, you can end up with a number of show-stopping issues.
This is not designed to be a comprehensive list of every card that works with the GoPro HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session.
To make it onto this list, the cards have to have demonstrated that they can handle the video and photo modes that generate the most data—particularly 4K30 with Protune.
Find them at:, and Fast, cost-effective, reliable, and widely available, the SanDisk Extreme cards are safe bets for a wide range of uses, including the GoPro HERO6 Black.
Extreme cards are the ones that GoPro themselves often bundle with their cameras andand it's one of the ones they officially recommend in their "Works with GoPro" certification program.
From myit is plenty fast enough for the 4K60 and 1080p240 video of the HERO6 Black, but it also has the virtue of being cost-effective.
The latest version of the SanDisk Extreme comes in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and https://fonstor.ru/card/smart-card-slot-on-hp-elitebook.html versions.
As with most of its product names, SanDisk recycles them with newer, faster cards.
So you can find "Extreme" cards that are actually several years old.
It's therefore worth checking the model number, although in practice even some of the older versions of the Extreme cards will also work well in GoPros.
SanDisk uses a three-part model numbering system in the format SDSQXA1-064G-AN6MA.
In this example, SDSQXA1 is the model number, 064G refers to the amount of memory, and the last 5 characters are used by the marketing department for different parts of the world but the cards are otherwise the same.
So the first part is the crucial part if you're looking to see which model the card is, and you don't have to take much notice of the last 5 characters.
Find them at: Samsung makes several excellent microSD cards.
They also have a confusing naming system that doesn't always make clear what the difference between the models is.
The Select is one of their better cards, but it's also very good value.
Like SanDisk, Samsung recycles the series names.
The latest version of the EVO Select is available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB sizes.
If you can't find the EVO Select line at your preferred retailer, the line also works well.
Find them at: and Lexar has long been one of the top makers of memory cards.
During 2017, the company went through some ownership changes, with their initial owner saying they were retiring the brand and then another company coming in a buying the gopro hero 5 sd card slot up and saving it.
The upshot is that most of the Lexar cards are still on the market, including this one, although there seemed to be some impact on their supply chain and the cards aren't always as easy to find these days.
It comes in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB versions and includes a USB thumb drive card reader.
Find them at: The Extreme Pro line is SanDisk's top-of-the-range line.
They're consistently among the.
While it's faster and fancier than the camera technically needs, they do work very well.
Extreme Pro cards are among my go-tos in all of the memory card formats because of their speed and reliability.
This latest version comes in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 400GB versions.
The latest version of the packaging includes both V30 and A2 on them.
It gets a little confusing because SanDisk is mixing and matching model numbers even amongst the current cards, but you're looking for model numbers that start with SDSQXCY for 64GB and 128GB and SDSQXCZ for 256GB and 400GB versions.
The standard version of this includes a microSD-to-SD cartridge adapter.
You can read more find that include a USB thumb reader.
Find them at: and The Extreme PLUS line is a newer addition to SanDisk's product lines and, as you'd expect, this is a step up from the standard Extreme but a step below the Extreme Pro.
In my tests, the Extreme PLUS does have a faster sequential write speed than the Extreme, but you won't get any added benefit from that in the camera--both exceed the speed requirements of the GoPro's data stream.
That's because the speed will be limited by the lowest performance in the chain, and in this case that bottleneck is in the camera's interface with the SD card's writing bus.
This is the latest version of this card--you can tell it apart by the V30 rating on the card.
Older versions didn't have the V30 on the packaging, but in practice even those older versions of the Extreme PLUS cards will also work well; because it's a relatively new line and they've always been among the faster lines, there aren't any older versions that are too slow.
Find them at: and SanDisk's Pixtor range is the same as SanDisk's Extreme range--it's a rebranded version that's designed as a house brand for Best Buy.
But the labeling on Pixtor cards isn't as clear as it could be.
The one you want is the SanDisk Pixtor Advanced, which is red and gold, but the card itself doesn't have the "Advanced" part printed on it.
There's another version, which is just the SanDisk Pixtor, which is red and gray; that's the equivalent of the SanDisk Ultra and isn't fast enough for the GoPros.
Because they're tied to a specific retailer, the Pixtor cards don't tend to be as readily available as some of the others here.
And there's really no reason to hunt for them--there's no performance benefit--especially click the Extreme range cards are much easier to find.
Find them at: or These cards by Delkin are one of the few currently available that come with the new V60 rating for recording 4K and 8K video.
It's also a UHS-II card and comes with a UHS-II SD adapter cartridge most other adapter cartridges are UHS-I.
Delkin as a brand isn't as well known as some of the other brands with bigger marketing budgets, but they've actually been around a long time and I've always had good experiences with them.
I use this particular model often in my GoPros and have found them to be fast and reliable.
ProGrade Digital V60 UHS-II Find them at: ProGrade Digital is a new brand, but they're not just another no-name rebrand that has sprung up from nowhere.
They're an American company with a very experienced team.
They're focusing on https://fonstor.ru/card/does-card-counting-work-online-casinos.html memory cards, and they have no-frills packaging and minimal marketing so far.
But I've been impressed with what I've seen so far--their SD cards are among the fastest I've tested and have become a fixture in my primary camera.
This brand-new microSD version, the first microSD they've released, isn't the fastest card I've tested, but it's comfortably fast enough to keep up with the video datastream generated by the flagship GoPro models.
What SD Card Size and Format for the HERO5?
Both the GoPro HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session are fully compatible with both the microSDXC and microSDHC specifications.
Some of current crop of microSDXC cards go up to 400GB.
The cameras themselves use the UHS-I host specification.
But UHS-II cards will still work because of the way that the specification is designed to roll back gracefully to UHS-I.
That, in turn, drained the battery even with the camera switched off.
GoPro issued a firmware update that addressed the issue, so updating the firmware is the first thing to try.
You can also try switching memory cards to a different brand.
There are 8 megabits in 1 megabyte.
It would be nice if that meant that you could just make sure your card had a write speed faster than 7.
Lexar, in particular, has long used this system.
It comes from the old way of measuring the speed of CD-ROM drives when the standard speed of a.
In practical terms, microSDHC refers to a card that has a storage capacity of 32GB or click the following article and microSDXC refers to one that is 64GB or larger.
SDHC Secure Digital High Capacity is a design specification that refers to SD cards that are between 4GB and 32GB in capacity and formatted with the FAT32 filesystem.
FAT32 supports individual files up to a maximum of 4GB.
SDXC Secure Digital eXtended Capacity refers to SD cards with a capacity larger than 32GB and with a maximum theoretical limit of 2TB.
The most relevant ones here are Class 10, U1, and U3.
Look for either a U3 or U1.
The specifications allow for faster and slower ratings—all the way up to V90 for 8K video—but V30 is the most relevant for the current generation of cards and the GoPro HERO5 Black.
Being a new rating, only a handful of manufacturers have started displaying the rating on their cards, but expect more to as new models come out.
Finally, you might have noticed the speed ratings A1 starting to appear on some of the newer cards.
So they need cards with fast random write speeds.
I have a more detailed.
UHS-I vs UHS-II Newer microSDHC and microSDXC cards have a feature called ultra high-speed bus, which refers to the interface.
So far, there is UHS-I and UHS-II.
The product labeling for cards with this technology will have either UHS-I or UHS-II, or sometimes just I or II.
Will 128GB and 256GB microSD Cards work in the HERO5?
Several of the cards listed above have versions in those sizes that work, and some of the newer ones are even going up to 400GB.
Memory cards are pretty reliable, but it is possible to get a faulty one.
And here are some steps to try if you need to.

Although GoPro Community squashes any response that says a card larger than 128 GB can be used, I am successfully using a Samsung 256GB EVO Plus Class 10 UHS-I microSDXC U3 MB-MC256GA in a GoPro Hero 5 Black that was delivered to me in May 2018 from GoPro.

Thanks, Hey David, thanks for your informative article, but I think i still need a little help.
The SDSQXNE version is an older card but is still fast enough for the HERO5 Black.
Hello I ve gopro hero 5 sd card slot a gopro hero 5 black and i ve seen that you recommended this SanDisk card: SanDisk Extreme V30 UHS-I I ve tried to find it here in my country but i ve found one that it does not have the same code as yours.
Yours is SDSQXAF-064G-GN6MA and the one that i ve found it has SDSQXAF-064G-GN6AA.
What s the difference between them?
Can i buy it?
The last group of characters simply refers to the regional marketing code.
Hi David, Very stupid question here as im new to cameras but ive got the Hero5 Black edition now and looking at SD cards as im going on a trip.
The photo section applies to HERO5 Black.
Because many of the bitrates on the 5 is a little lower than the 6 you can get a bit longer on the card than that chart suggests.
What is the difference between these microSD cards.
Thanks for your answer!
Yes, they work well.
Samsung has several cards with similar names and overlapping specs.
Hi, I currently bought a hero 6 and a Sandisk ultra 64GB card.
I think I am having problems with this card since my videos would split into two videos once they are longer than 11 minutes.
Am I right in thinking that this problem could be because there is too much information to the Sandisk ultra 64GB card to handle?
If yes, I am thinking on buying a new card.
Which one would you recommend best for the hero 6 the Sandisk extreme or the Lexar 1000X?
Also does the memory affect the videos as well?
I was thinking either getting 32 or 64 GB Thank you!
The splitting up of video files is normal behavior and not related to the memory card—well, at least not related to a problem with a memory cards.
I have more details on it.
I have a list of others that work well on the HERO6 Black.
This is such a helpful and informative article.
I have had my GoPro Hero 5 Black for 12 months… took it to Canada for a snow trip and had no issues with my 128gb SD card.
But now, almost exactly 12 months since my trip, I am getting an SD Card Error almost daily even after reformatting th card inside the camera.
Looks like I will need to buy a different card!
Super frustrating that I had no issues when I first got the card.
But you article has helped!
I recently purchased a Gopro Hero 5 black.
However the only issue I have which is strange and even Gopro support didnt figure out is that when I only start Gopro by clicking the SHUTTER button in an extreamly dark areas i.
However this does not happen when I start Gopro by the MODE button then press record!
So is it because of the memory card?
Note: I tried recording 1080p 60 fps superview and lower quality videos and higher too!
I want to exceed their recommendation to avoid having to purchase more faster cards for future updated cameras releases— will these work?
Not sure I follow.
You can use a large video code with either.
The catch with the video is to have a fast card.
Many of the ones here have 128GB or 256GB versions available.
Does footage have to go from SD card to Cloud and not direct to cloud?
It needs to save to the memory card first.
You can then upload from there to the cloud.
Many of the video modes, in particular, generate enormous amounts of data, and recording to the cloud directly would be far too unreliable and slow.
The wireless function be busy with other things while filming, like the remote controls or controls through the smartphone app.
Just bought a go pro 5 Black but baffled by all your options as to which to but.
The SanDisk EXTREME or Lexar 1000x are good options that work, are easy to find, and are cost effective.
Hi, thank you for your recommendations I was completely lost on what to get!
Im a bit dubious about buying from Amazon as the cards could be fake?
I tend to prefer the ones from Amazon itself rather than third party sellers, and when I add links I try to link to those.
In reality, their speeds have been improving in the latest versions of them, but the cost savings tend to minimal over the Extreme range, which is recommended by GoPro themselves and work well in my own experience.
I have now noticed that it is not on the GOPRO list?
Thanks Hello, Can you please tell me if you know, will the Kingston SD card work with the GoPro Hero5 Black?
This is the card: Thank you for your answer!
Just bought a Hero5 Session while on vacation in Hawaii because the case on my old Hero3 broke and no replacements available.
Two days in gopro hero 5 sd card slot two days of having my pictures erased and SD card error messages.
Not going to try a 3rd day of this.
Going to see if I can find one from your list.
But unfortunately the nature of the beast is that some very small percentage of memory cards do fail.
Sucks that you were on the receiving end—hope the new card solves it for you.
Just trying to find a SD card for my new to purchase GoPro and came across: color is gopro hero 5 sd card slot then your images but seems to match with the official san disc web site.
Do you think this one will work?
Thanks for your reply.
And this one is quite a bit cheaper.
Will this do as well?
Hello; I bought a Hero5 Session and have been reading on what SD to use.
All the info is close to being overwhelming.
I will pick one of your first five choices.
I am writing to say thanks for the support — if not for me for all the folks who are unsure about their choice and simply want to record something very cool.
You are doing a critical service.
I faced that same problem myself several years ago, which is why I started this series.
Does this work well with Hero5?
I would add some caution about buying from a reputable retailer to reduce the risk of getting a counterfeit card.
Thanks so much for this explanation!
How long does the battery usually last on the hero 5?
Can you recommend a good external charger that will charge a go pro battery many times?
Any suggestions on this as well?
About two hours of shooting, give or take.
I have a separate post on for the HERO5 Black.
Many of them can charge via the USB standard, in which case you can use a standard external USB powerbrick with them.
I recently put together a post on some of that might be a good place to start.
Have a safe climb!
Thanks David, Just found these Lexar 633x microSDXC 128gb cards as opposed to the recommended SDHC option.
Would these be suitable for GoPro Hero 5?
Yes, the SDXC part refers to the filesystem used for cards 64GB and above.
Performance is essentially the same.
If we get an SD card with serial code SDSDQXP, but it is not the new one with V30 marked on it, will that work ok in the Hero 5?
Is Sandisl Ultra 128gb sdxc compatible for Hero 5 black?
On the other side is MMCGS08BCASH-TO LYXC20 1607.
Sometimes I had sd card error.
Thank you very much for your answer.
Greetings from Czech republic ; Two things.
The only thing I can find from a web search of that number is a reference to a counterfeit memory card.
Hello David, I have a Gopro 5 black and I would like to know if the following are compatible with my camera: 1.
Sandisk 64G Extreme microSDXC micro SD SDXC SDHC 64GB C10 90MB UHS U3 4K Video SDSDQXVF-064G Thanks Hi, I just bought a GO PRO HERO 5 BLACK yesterday and also I purchase Sandisk Extreme 64 gb model no: SDSQXAF-064G-GN6MA.
Will the micro sd with that model no.
Hope for your reply.
Thank you very much!
SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC Card UHS-I U3 Class 10 64GB 2.
SanDisk Extreme microSDXC Card UHS-I U3 V30 Class 10 64GB 3.
The Lexar cards are also very good.
You say its working!
card wallet slot 6 vuitton louis, my problem is they dont work for my camera!
I am quite new in this technology.
So, I checked the above info.
You said update and my camera seems to be up-to-date.
I cant understand what is possibly wrong.
Did I choose the wrong SD cards?
Hi i bought Sandisk Extreme PRO micro SDHC UHS-I 32gb v30 does it work for gopro hero 5 product code is SDSQXXG-032G-GN6MA.
If it works how to go about formatting.
Please reply Yes, that model works well.
Insert the card into the camera and turn the camera on.
Open the menu on the back screen use side button.
You can also do this via the Capture mobile app if you prefer.
The message prompts for 2 seconds and then the camera turns off.
Tested the card on my PC and it works without any issues.
Tried using an older SD card with 4 GB and the camera works.
Since the Kingston SD card respects the manufacturer indications, what should I do?
I wanted to know if my SD card was good, or if I need to get a new one.
I have the Lexar 300x 32GB for my GoPro Hero 5 Black.
Hi David, I have an option between the Sandisk extreme 32GB and the Samsung pro plus 32GB for the hero 5 session.
The shop seems to recommend the samsung and considering the problems many people in the comments section have faced with the Sandisk, should i go for the Samsung.
Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.
Both will work well.
The recent firmware update seems to have fixed the issues with the SanDisk Extreme cards.
I try to keep cost down as much as possible for the customer with the new cameras I will have to go to a more expensive card.
Hi David, Have you heard anything about SanDisk- Pictor Advance 64 GB micro SDXC class 10 UHS-3 memory card?
I did not see the Pixtor in your list.
I just realized you did mention that one above as being approved by go pro….
The Pixtor Advanced is the equivalent of the Extreme and is the one you want red and gold.
I just bought a got-pro hero 5 black….
I bought 3 Lexar 1000x 64GB Cards for my last trip.
Used with the GoPro Hero 5 Black shooting 2.
On a side note, I also tried the Lexar 1000x 64GB in my DJI Phantom 4 PRO shooting 4k and locked up the drone as well.
In my experience I have better luck with SanDisk.
Thank you for dimistifying the SD card coding.
Question, you mentioned not to use SD card to use it as back up.
Is there a reason?
I gopro hero 5 sd card slot many SD cards with the original photos and video just in case both backups fail.
What I mean by that is using it as a primary long-term archival backup.
But, did you finish testing the Extreme Plus and Pro cards?
If so, click the following article there a considerable difference or Extreme cards work well enough?
Ofcourse the download speeds to the computer will be a lot faster, but is it any uselful on the cam itself?
Yes, they work well and have since been officially recommended by GoPro.
Got a Gopro Hero5 black.
If the 200GB size appeals, the also have a 200GB, are a similar price, and are to work with the GoPro HERO5 Black.
I am thinking of getting a Gopro 5 for a couple reasons, vacations and also as a compact video camera for my kids soccer games.
I have a separate post on that you might find useful.
My SD card from the Hero4 was SanDisk Extreme 64 U3 SDXC I.
Is there any real discernible benefit from the new card?
Should I just return the new card?
Their write speed is too slow to keep up with the high-end video modes like 4K.
GoPro recommends the card for the GoPro 5 I tested the card in a GoPro 3 BE and a Xiaomi Yi.
No problems at all.
My new GoPro 5 has been tested with some old cards, without go here />I tested it with: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 SDSDQU-064G-U46A About 21 min.
You can find the update.
This was really helpful, thank you so much.
I was a bit surprised that I had to buy an SD card, as I was so excted to start using my new GoPro HERO 5 Black :D.
I will go for the SanDisk Extreme, as it is the one you recommended.
You can find the update.
Hi, I Just bought the GOPRO Session 5and would like to put a 128gb memory card!
What would be the best one for fast reading vidéo 4k and best picture without having any probleme?
Every few videos i gopro hero 5 sd card slot SD-ERROR and it goes into repairing.
Some of their slower cards are available in 128GB.
So my guess it that you might run into trouble with it if you try recording the higher video modes.
When it does not freeze it asks to format.
Tested my Session 5 with other cards I could get my hands onto: SanDisk Ultra 32gb works fine up to 1080p30 SanDisk Extreme 64gb UHS-1 version works fine on all resolutions.
GoPro has recently released a firmware update v.
You can find the update.
I recently purchased the hero 5 and a 64GB card from the same retailer… micro sd xc I U 1 class 10?
Your article was helpful… I see I have definitely bought the wrong card for this… not to waste though, No sd card slot on pc will work great with my under water camera.
I hit record, dumped it in the freezer, and pulled it out a couple of hours later.
It went until the battery died.
Both have been going so far for an hour non-stop.
And no, 35 seconds and 100 photos is definitely not right.
You should be able to to fit far more than that on a 64GB card.
Could be a faulty card.
Also worth doing another format of the card in the camera.
Hi based on your review I purchased the SanDisk Extreme 64 and 32 GB version.
Under snow conditions the 32 works well with session5 but the 64GB version in the hero5 states sd error and tries to repair parts of the clip.
All 1080 so no recommendation for that card.
If you can, you might want to apologise, used casino decks of cards opinion to get the card exchanged—hopefully the new one will work better.
I bought the Extreme MicroSdHc uhs-1 32GB with GoPro Hero 5 Black for my husband for this Xmas thru Amazon.
He had Same SD error as has been reported here and on Amazon.
So he formatted in camera and still SD error.
Could the ejector spring be broken?
This is really a pain.
If we get it out, we will try Lexar 1000x.
Thank you VERY MUCH for your very complete article on the subject.
I have a brand new GoPro hero 5 black, with a brand new Sandisk extreme SDSQXVF.
Have you really tried it on yours?
If you have another handy, it would be worth trying that.
Hi, thanks for the in depth review.
You mentioned you have also used a 200GB card, is it SanDisk Ultra MicroSDXC 200GB card?
Do you recommend it for Hero5?
It works in many of the video modes, but there have been too many instances of it stopping unexpectedly when using the high-end video modes.
Hello and thank you for your in depth review… I feel that it will help me immensely with my Hero 5 Black that I got for Christmas.
My question is will the PNY 128GB microSD Memory Card work with the GoPro?
The specs all look good but I have not seen anything yet on this brand of memory card… Thanks!
It depends which model.
The last two are the fastest SanDisk Extreme Plus and Samsung Pro+.
The other two should also work fine, but out of those choices the last two are the best ones.
I just received a GoPro Hero 5 for Christmas.
I race cars professionally and I need to get an SD card that will work for the 4 hour plus races.
What brand of memory card should I buy and what size?
Should I just buy another SanDisk Ultra128GB card or get the SanDish Extreme, SanDisk Extreme Plus or the SanDisk Extreme Pro?
As you point out, the Ultras do work under some conditions, but they can also fail in these cameras under other conditions.
Hi David, first of all thank you for a great in depth review on GoPro Hero 5.
Just to let you know, I tested the black at 1080p with a few different framerates, and it worked well.
It seems even at 120.
My question is before I open these will the 128GB work in my old GoPro Hero 4 Black without any problems?
I know it should work fine in my Hero 5 Black, but I would prefer to have a card that works in both cameras, not just one.
The HERO4 Black also works with microSDXC cards, which means ones that are 64GB or higher.
Hi Excellent and detailed review on Hero 5 and very informative on SD cards and Bitrates, Thanks.
However before I can purchase and use the above I need to know the following from an expert like yourself or any other Hero5 owner and unable to get from GoPro site.
I need very long period continuous recordings for work and currently use Drift Ghosts to give me 12 hours plus at 720p, 1080p for short periods but no need for 4K!
With a 128GB card on 720p and 1080p recordings, what would the recording capacity be please.
Also, I need a continuous onscreen time display that includes seconds, i.
My Drift Ghosts and Replay Prime X do.
eaton xslot card information would be much appreciated.
Thanks Konrad Just ran a test, and at 1080p30 with standard ie.
For times under an hour, the display on the front and back screens display in minutes and seconds MM:SS.
Over an hour and it changes to hours and minutes HH:MM.
Any difference which I need to know Theoretical answers are no good.
I am growing to HATE the Hero 5 black.
Where are you buying them?
There are counterfeit cards around, so perhaps you have gotten caught with those from a retailer with dodgy sources.
It works well, but if you can find the cheaper it works just as well.
Recently I have ordered one memory card for my GoPro Hero5.
My concern is, what is the different between those two and can it be used and compatible with my GoPro?
Thank you in advance.
Yes, it will work.
The SDSQXVF versions appear to have the newer packaging with the V30 rating on them but are otherwise the same card.

Hi, I want to thank you for testing a lot of memory cards for the new GoPro.
I just gopro hero 5 sd card slot ordered one and now I am looking to buy a memory card for it.
You mentioned SanDisk Extreme 64GB will work.
I was wondering if SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Card would work?
The reason is that I have read somewhere a larger capacity card uses a different file more info and worry if it may not compatible with Hero5.
In this case, both 64GB and 128GB have same file format or Hero5 can suuport 128BG Extreme?
Thank you for your time!
The change in file format comes in the 32GB to 64GB jump.
Thank you for your quick reply!
I much appreciate it.
I had the exact same question.
Thanks for asking, Landon.
And thank you, David, for the thorough research and attention to detail.
This information is super useful!
Hello, A week ago I bought GoPro Hero 5 with 64 GB Sandisk Extreme MiroSDXC card.
I installed GoPro Quik but strangely when I took almost 15000 timelapse photos, the Quik only show and download a portion 2300 of the images and I have to remove the card from the device and insert it into iMac and manually drag the whole 15000 photos from the card to folder on iMac.
I had formatted the card on both camera and imac but it still showing portion of the photos in the card on every project and I have to go through manual process to download the photos.
I had contacted GoPro supoort but have not replied back.
Thanks From what you describe, it sounds like an arbitrary limitation in the Quik app rather than anything related to the card per se.

The genuine Samsung Evo Select line of Micro SD cards are great.
They are reliable and they live up to the speed and capacity classifications they claim to.
I've been using Samsung cards for years and they are the only brand that consistently doesn't give me any issues year after year.
This 32GB card is no exception.
However, by default the card is formatted as FAT32, but I prefer exFAT as FAT32 won't allow you to transfer a folder containing more than 4GB to the card.
That's annoying if you are moving data from an old card to a new one.
FAT32 has 4GB file size limitations, but on a transfer it recognizes a directory containing lots of files as 1 thing, and applies the 4GB limit.
This will give you an error in Windows anyway that there isn't enough space available for the transfer.
But if you copy the files individually it works fine.
Or just format the card to exFAT and it will accept the folder that exceeds 4GB easily.
Earlier versions may have some issues with the exFAT formatting This card handles full HD Video at 60FPS without faulting.
It's write speeds are fine to use for HD video.
But be sure to authenticate the card upon arrival to make sure it's a genuine Samsung card with the stated capacity.

Regardless of who you buy your Micro SD card from or what brand it is, test it out.
A thorough way to test it is with a utility app called "h2testw".
You can download it free.
Just do a search for it on any search engine and you'll find it.
That app writes single bit data to the drive until it's full, then it reads that data back to make sure it's readable.

I have compared it to two other popular cards so you may make a determination based on your needs.
The cards tested are a - Samsung 128GB EVO Select - SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro - SanDisk 128GB Ultra Testing equipment - Samsung SM-G955U Galaxy S8+ using A1 SD Bench - Kingston FCR-HS3 card reader via USB3 port using CrystalDiskMark 5.
The SanDisk won for read speed here, but the Samsung clearly beat them in write speeds.

The 64GB and 128GB sizes offer you good bang for the buck.
Many smartphone users never require more than the storage integrated into their device.
However this purchase is a no-brainer for those who've hit the limit and have the ability to expand memory using SD storage.

Initially I thought it wouldn't work with the new Gopro hero 5 black because of some of the reviews.
But, then I read that this product was later updated to support 4K recording.
I decided to make a video recording test because I also read something about the video suddenly stopping while recording.
I recorded about an hour and a half the length of the battery duration and I did not have an issue I was able to play it back successfully as well.

Stay far far away.
Amazon should do a better job screening these knock off products.
Anyone who has given 5 star reviews were either paid to or they are absolutely clueless.
I ordered the 128gb Extreme, and when it came, I can already tell something was off by the packaging.
The font was weird and the pictures were blurry, and even though I ordered an Extreme and the card says Extreme, on the packaging, it says Extreme PRO.
When I took the microSD card out and held it under the light, you can see that the card had the words "Extreme Plus" engraved on it!
They painted over the word "Plus" because I ordered the Extreme!
The ink they used isn't even black, it's like that weird gray-black that you get when trying to print black on a piece of paper.
Then I conducted a speed test on the card.
What a complete joke!

Insta360 One and errors out.

I compared this to an old 32 GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD I'd been using.

The latest HERO edition with plenty of cool updates, including new recording modes and an improved touchscreen.
First I'd like to share that I'm a full time professional photographer and until the Hero6 Black came out, I wouldn't have even considered including a GoPro in my kit as the quality just wasn't there.
Now, with low light improvements and the fact that it shoots "flat" it's honestly a huge benefit to my work!
What I mean by shooting flat, is that the video sequences lack the high contrast I've gotten with the GoPro Hero 5 Black edition and that's a GOOD THING!
They dynamic range is inproved, less clipping in highlights and more information in the shadows, you can up the contrast in post production and get the look you want.
But that's not what I needed this for.
I'm a single shooter, meaning that I work alone, even when covering weddings.
I have always done mixed media with my Nikon DSLR bodies which meant that I would shift back and forth from stills to video sequences.
Now I'm not even going to pretend that the GPH6B is competing with the capabilities of pro-body DSLR cameras, BUT, I can use both at the same time.
A recent client asked if I could take stills of things like ring exchanges, the first kiss, bouquet toss etc.
AND, include short video grabs of those critical moments?
Well, actually, yes, now I can do just that.
During wedding ceremonies, I don't use a strobe on top of my camera, I don't want to disturb the sacred moments, nor make myself part of the "action" up at the altar.
The solution is that I can put the GoPro Hero6 ON my Nikon hot-shoe, I https://fonstor.ru/card/sim-card-slot-on-pc.html the field of view etc to 1080p Narrow 30 fps.
I remain a one-person-show and don't make myself into a spectacle at weddings or performances, AND get both video and stills without switching back and forth from one camera to another.
GoPro HERO6 Black is finally for truly Professional workflows.
I'm so glad to have it!
I did read several reviews before purchasing the Hero6 and noticed many complaints regarding the camera stalling, shutting down, not recording, re-starting etc.
Those issues are almost always due to the wrong capacity Micro SD Card.
In 4k, a 32 gig card will get used up in a blink depending on your selected frame rate.
If you don't use the endorsed cards, don't complain, it's the operator, not the gear.
I would definitely recommend this camera to enthusiasts and pros that need to add to their image making arsenal.
FIVE STARS to say the least.

First off, this camera is insane for what it more info />Best Gopro by far, they really have come a long ways.
My usage is mostly skiing, and fishing.
Now for a little side note about bad reviews I've seen on here.
A lot of people are complaining about the color and such, well this was actually set up intentionally by Gopro so that when you go into post production yes you need post to get anything that will look close to gopro videos you see you will be able to make more changes to color without destroying the video quality.
The image stabilization is absolutely insane.
It's almost gimbal like, it crops out a small percentage of the video, but if you frame your shots right, this wont be an issue at all.
Coming from the hero 4, I'm completely blown away.
Yes you can use warp stabilizer on premier to fix choppy footage, but with this you can just get that done in the field.
The image sensor is much much better.
Low light looks soooo much better now through the hero 6.
Side note, I shoot exclusively in ISO max and min at 100.
It makes for much less noise in your shots.
If you don't have enough light, then get some more light.
The battery life is pretty dang good.
I took it out skiing last weekend in temperatures around 12 degrees Fahrenheit, and it performed awesome.
I don't have the 5, so I can't really give feedback on that.
Also if you aren't happy with your hero 6, and you aren't using premiere or final cut, please don't leave bad feedback, because you aren't using your Hero6 to its full potential.
I would attach some images and videos taken with it, but amazon's compression won't make it look good.
First off, this camera is insane for what it is.
Best Gopro by far, they really have come a long ways.
Got a full 7 hour day of skiing in before it almost died.
I don't have the 5, so I can't really give feedback on that.
From what I've heard though, it's still a huge upgrade.

I've made several videos riding around on a motorcycle both from the back seat and from being mounted to the nose of the bike.
Be aware though, if you don't own a GoPro-approved device or software, you WILL NOT be able to view or edit videos at 4k-60FPS or 1080p-240FPS.
If you're like me and don't want to buy new gear or software to fit your already expensive GoPro, downloading Handbrake video processing software or a cached version of Quik 2.
Also know that the battery runs dry SUPER quick.
I can usually get about 2 hours of recording in before it needs a recharge, which takes about twice as long as its "up" time.
I've had minimal issue with touch screen responsiveness, but it can be a pain in the butt occasionally.
Great image quality and the image stabilization is spectacular.

Tried again several times, it would never work.
So, by now the 128 GB card ordered May 2, is well past its "return by" date, when I determine it is defective.
Now what do I do?
Searched on Amazon, but found no instructions for this situation.
Giving it 1 star in hopes this can be rectified.
I use SanDisk cards all the time and have never had a problem like this before.
Just found out from SanDisk that this card is a fake - not their product.

At first I had occasional issues where my Galaxy S5 would take a picture and I'd get a black picture instead of my pic.
Then I had issues copying MP3s to the card.
Then when I formatted it went form 64GB to 256GB RAW, and couldnt be formatted again.
So I contacted SanDisk and they told me it's counterfiet.
I confirmed this with research online.
You can tell yours is counterfiet if it: Was made in Taiwan The grey is grainy The red is pinkish, not dark red.
This card is counterfeit.

I was worried that the go pro 5 may have issues with this 128gb card but it did not.
I'd definitely buy from them again.
Bought mine without the card reader but the card checks as real, not counterfeit and is screamingly fast, Fast shipping, followup after the sale and a great price.

But all things considered this no-name brand is pretty cheap so I went with it and I am pleased.

The latest version of the SanDisk Extreme comes in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 400GB versions.
During 2017, the company went through some ownership changes, with their initial owner saying they were retiring the brand and then another company coming in a buying the brand up and saving it.
You can also find that include a USB thumb reader.
Find them at: and The Used casino decks cards PLUS line is a newer addition to SanDisk's product lines and, as you'd expect, this is a step up from the standard Extreme but a step below the Extreme Pro.
The one you want is the SanDisk Pixtor Advanced, which https://fonstor.ru/card/pc-card-slot-adapter.html red gopro hero 5 sd card slot gold, but the card itself doesn't have the "Advanced" part printed on it.
And there's really no reason to hunt for them--there's no performance benefit--especially when the Extreme range cards are much easier to find.
ProGrade Digital V60 UHS-II Find them at: ProGrade Digital are micro sd card slot spring congratulate a new brand, but they're not just another no-name rebrand that has sprung up from nowhere.
They're an American company with a very experienced team.
They're focusing on high-end memory cards, and they have no-frills packaging and minimal marketing so far.
In practical terms, microSDHC refers to a card that has a storage capacity of 32GB or smaller and microSDXC refers to one that is 64GB or larger.

Is there a max card size for the Hero5?
Will a 256gb card work?
Looking for as much storage as possible.
Thanks for the reply David.
What kind of external power source do you use to get those 2h long videos on the gopro?
Although GoPro Community squashes any response that says a card larger than 128 GB can be used, I am successfully using a Samsung 256GB EVO Plus Class 10 UHS-I microSDXC U3 MB-MC256GA in a GoPro Hero 5 Black that was delivered to me in May 2018 from GoPro.
I am shooting 1080P, and have players slot card machine tried it in 4K, but expect that it would work.
Will this one work with Hero 5…mainly record in the Video+Photo mode 1080, 30 frames, and picture every 30 seconds.
Might do occasional 4K, but primarily shooting in 1080.
Thanks, Hey David, thanks for your just click for source article, but I think i still need a little help.
The SDSQXNE version is an older card but is still fast enough for the HERO5 Black.
Hello I ve got a gopro hero 5 black and i ve seen that you recommended this SanDisk card: SanDisk Extreme V30 UHS-I I ve tried to find it here in my country but i ve found one that it does not have the same code as yours.
Many of the video modes, in particular, generate enormous amounts of data, and gopro hero 5 sd card slot to the cloud directly would be far too unreliable and slow.
Two days in and two days of having my pictures erased and SD card error messages.
Not going to try a 3rd day of this.
Going to see if I can find one from your list.
But unfortunately the nature of the beast is that some very small percentage of memory cards do fail.
Sucks that you were on the receiving end—hope the new card solves it for you.
Just trying to find a SD card for my new to purchase GoPro and came across: color is different then your images but seems to match with the official san disc web site.
Do you think this one will work?
Thanks for your reply.
And this one is quite a bit cheaper.
Will this do as well?
Hello; I bought a Hero5 Session and have been reading on what SD to use.
All the info is close to being overwhelming.
I will pick one of your first five choices.
I am writing to say thanks for the support — if not share gamefly gift cards in stores congratulate me for all the folks who are unsure about their choice and simply want to record something very cool.
But, my problem is they dont work for my camera!
You can also do this via gopro hero 5 sd card slot Capture mobile app if you prefer.
I just realized you did mention that visit web page above as being approved by go pro….
Question, you mentioned not to use Click card to use it as back up.
Is there a reason?
I have many SD cards with the original photos and video gopro hero 5 sd card slot in case both backups fail.
What I mean by that is using it as a primary long-term archival backup.
But, did you finish testing the Extreme Plus and Pro cards?
If so, is there a considerable difference or Extreme cards work well enough?
My new GoPro 5 has been tested with some old cards, without problems.
I tested it with: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 SDSDQU-064G-U46A About 21 min.
You can find the update.
This was really helpful, thank you so much.
I was a bit surprised that I had to buy an SD card, as I was so excted to start using my gopro hero 5 sd card slot GoPro HERO 5 Black :D.
I will go for the SanDisk Extreme, as it is the one you recommended.
You can find the update.
Hi, I Just bought the GOPRO Session 5and would like to put a 128gb memory card!
What would be the best one for fast reading vidéo 4k and best picture without having any probleme?
Every few videos i get SD-ERROR and it goes into repairing.
Your article was helpful… I see I have definitely bought the wrong card for this… not to waste though, It will work great with my under water camera.
If you can, you might want to try to get the card exchanged—hopefully the new one will work better.
My question is will the PNY 128GB microSD Memory Gopro hero 5 sd card slot work with the GoPro?
The specs all look good but I have not seen anything yet on this brand of memory card… Thanks!
It depends which model.
The last two are the fastest SanDisk Extreme Plus and Samsung Pro+.
The other two should also work fine, but out of those choices the last two are the best ones.
I just received a GoPro Hero 5 for Christmas.
I race cars professionally and I need to get an SD card that will work for the 4 hour plus races.
What brand of memory card should I buy and what size?
Should Go here just buy another SanDisk Ultra128GB card or get the SanDish Extreme, SanDisk Extreme Plus or the SanDisk Extreme Pro?
As you point out, the Ultras do work under some conditions, but they can also fail in these cameras under other conditions.
Hi David, first of all thank you for a great in depth review on GoPro Hero 5.
Just to let you know, I tested the black at 1080p article source a few different framerates, and it worked well.
Any information would be much appreciated.
My concern is, what is the continue reading between those two and can it be used and compatible with my GoPro?
Thank you in advance.
Yes, it will work.
The SDSQXVF versions appear to have the newer packaging with the V30 rating on them gopro hero 5 sd card slot are otherwise the same card.
Hello, do you have to purchase a 4k MicroSD card to use with the new Go Pro Hero5 session?
Or could you just purchased a regular one?
Several of them are very reasonably priced.
Hi, I want to thank you for testing a lot of memory cards for the new GoPro.
I just recently ordered one and now I am looking to buy a memory card for it.
You mentioned SanDisk Extreme 64GB will work.
I was wondering if SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Card would work?
The reason is that I have read somewhere a larger capacity card uses a different file format and worry if it may not compatible with Hero5.
